Rocket Stove
Rocket Stove
The rocket stove is a fantastic construction that is used in all sorts of kitchens the world over. It was originally designed to provide small amounts of continual heat to not just the base of a cooking pan but also the sides.
These days it has developed – and whilst it still provides the heat for cooking in the traditional manner the rocket stove can also be used in a variety of ways, from a space heater warming the air and material around it through to a water heater.
Modern Use of Rocket Stove
Here in the West the main used for the rocket stove is still as a traditional stove. As we become more energy conscious we look for ways of saving energy – both to be green and to save money on our energy bills.
The rocket stove is perfect here, it is an extremely efficient heater. Because, unlike traditional stoves, it cooks on the edges of the pot as well as at the base of it the heat is spread over a large amount of surface area – heating everything. Compare this to stoves that will fire heat off into the air and just used the base of the pot.
Traditionally they have been avoided because they are not great to look at. A big part of their efficiency comes from an ugly material wrapping that most people don’t want in their homes. These days though there are all sorts of attractive designs that you can have on the outside of the rocket stove – making it fit right in with your home décor is simple now.
Of course it is not just for use in the kitchen – you can also get portable rocket stoves. A portable rocket stove is great for taking camping as it is very fuel efficient, which means collecting less wood… always a good thing when camping in our opinion.
